🆚 [Choosing by crowd level] Same yearly average, yet 198 days split?

othree / CC BY 2.0

Which park is busier is not a question the yearly averages answer: both land on the same crowd level. Line the dates up one at a time, though, and the days where the two come apart are still there.

Across the year, Land and Sea sit at the same crowd level. Match the 724 days we cover one at a time, though, and 198 of them carry different levels. Sea comes out higher on 101 days, Land on 97. The two directions balance, which is why the average erases the whole thing.

The figures here compare the park-specific levels date by date. The 198 counts only days where the seven-step word itself came out different. Each level is what we expect of that date, not a record of how many came.

🆚 Same yearly average, different days!

Over the year Land averages Normal, and so does Sea. That is the same level. On that line alone, the choice looks like no choice at all.

Match the 724 days one at a time and 198 of them come out on different levels, or 27%. The other 526 carry the same value.

Sea is the higher one on 101 days and Land on 97. The two directions nearly cancel, so averaging wipes the difference out entirely.

📅 The direction flips with the weekday!?

Split those 198 days by weekday and the biggest pile is Friday, with 61 of them.

Sea is higher most often on Friday (46 days); Land is higher most often on Sunday (37). Splitting is one thing, but which way it splits turns over with the weekday.

On weekends, 60 of the 68 split days go to Land. On weekdays, 93 of 130 go to Sea.

🤔 Does either park come out busier?

No. Sea is higher on 101 days against 97 for Land. Neither park owns the difference.

And 526 of the 724 days, 73%, carry the same level at both gates. The split lives in the other 27%, and even there the direction changes with the weekday.

So "which park is busier" has no answer once the year is flattened. It only has one after you fix a date.

🗓️ Pick the date, not the park!

Across the 724 days the levels run from Easy to Packed — 5 steps. Switching dates moves far more than switching parks does.

The two parks measured against each other in one wait snapshot is Land vs Sea wait times; how to narrow dates once you have chosen Sea is choosing a DisneySea date.

What the level words mean is how we grade crowd levels, and the dates themselves are listed in the quiet days.
