"Busy day, expensive room" is the assumption most itineraries are built on, and Monday turns it inside out. The park answers whether today is a day off; the hotels answer whether tomorrow is. Here the two are lined up by weekday.

The park and the hotels are reading days that are one apart. Park crowds peak on Saturday, with Monday (Normal) right behind. Rates drop away on that same Monday. Friday is the mirror image: the park only reaches Normal, yet rates are climbing. The park responds to whether today is a day off. Hotels respond to whether tomorrow is.

The lists below hold the days where the two disagree, from both directions. Across the year, 74 days pair a busy park with cheap rooms and 71 pair a quiet park with rooms that climb. 🏨 Hotels are reading tomorrow, not today!

By weekday, park crowds run highest on Saturday, then Monday, then Friday. Room rates run highest on Saturday and Friday, with Monday through Thursday all sitting on the falling side.

The two peaks do not line up. The park responds to whether today is a day off. Hotels respond to whether the morning after that night is. Different questions, so some days disagree.

💸 Monday: the park is busy but the room is cheap!?

Monday in the park reads Normal — second only to Saturday. Rates that night are falling. Within that band they are not equal: Wednesday and Thursday nights sit lowest, and Monday only just clears into the same band.

Whoever stays Monday night goes back to an ordinary Tuesday in the morning. The demand for the night before never builds. On a day trip Monday is the day to skip; for an overnight, Monday night is the bargain.

💰 Friday is the mirror: rates climb before the crowd does!

Friday in the park only reaches Normal — quieter than Monday. Rates, though, are climbing, second only to Saturday.

Because the next day is Saturday. A quiet park with an expensive room is the worst pairing to book into, and Friday is exactly the day people are told to aim for.

We do not fold the two into one number: fold them and a day that is middling on both looks the same as a day that is extreme on one. The days where they disagree come to 145.
